Rainbow Services for Developmentally Disabled Individuals

1-Rainbow“The Rainbow Outreach & Drop-In Center instills the belief that, despite their disabilities, there is nothing these individuals can’t do. For many, this is a new concept. Through patience and encouragement, they learn many activities that promote their self-confidence and independence.”

Rainbow Services provides social interaction and recreation for individuals from minority and low-income families with intellectual and developmentally disabilities.

There are two key elements to the Rainbow Program:

2-rainbowRainbow Drop-In Center provides a safe and therapeutic social environment for 20-30 developmentally disabled adults. The group meets every Wednesday from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the Grace Church Parish Hall. Activities include arts & crafts, field trips and
performing in holiday and end-of-year shows. Dinner is provided. Through this program participants gain self-esteem, a sense of purpose and belonging—while acquiring valuable social skills.

Rainbow Outreach was started in 1994, as an adjunct to the Drop-In Center and targets families with younger children struggling with developmental delays who don’t know where to go for help. The program provides informational presentations, supports and referrals to ensure that these families receive the services they need and to which they are entitled. Monthly Saturday morning recreation activities are also provided for children with developmental or intellectual disabilities.
