2nd Annual Essay Contest

“Why Second Chances are Important” is the topic for the 2019 essay contest sponsored by Lifting Up Westchester, a non-profit agency committed to giving individuals in need a second chance by helping them to achieve self-sufficiency.

Essays should explore:

  • Do you believe that everyone can change the course of their life?

  • What would they need to make that happen?

  • Does everyone deserve a second chance?

  • Does everyone need/deserve a champion rooting for them through the good AND the bad?

  • Does everyone have a champion?

  • If not, who can act as an intermediary cheerleader and supporter?

  • When have you seen or experienced a second chance in action and what did you learn from it?

  • Relate your example back to Lifting Up Westchester’s core mission of
“Restoring hope to men, women and children in need . . . one person at a time.”

Contest open to all Westchester students in 7th - 12th in public, parochial, private, home schools or youth programs.
